Power of Positive Choices

A Challenge to Our Youth

Ask Yourself The Following Questions:

What excuse do you use to justify your actions when you have done something wrong?

    a) My parents did it.
    b) I was put in a bad situation and had no choice.
    c) Everybody does it.
    d) I was wrong and I'm sorry.

When you stumble and fall because of wrong choices or actions, in which direction are you tempted to point the finger or blame?

  • Outward (at others)?

  • Upward (at God)?

  • Or inward (at yourself)?
You'll never find an escape from personal responsibility for your actions. You alone will ultimately be held accountable for the choices you make in this life - whether good, bad, right, or wrong.

Many people grow up in a negative and abusive family. Perhaps you're one of them. Even though you didn't choose your past, you can choose your present and future. You don't have to be a victim. You don't have to use drugs and alcohol. And, you don't have to surround yourself with negative people. To break free, you must stop being in denial and look at yourself honestly in the mirror. To change your life you must first change your attitude. The truth is never easy, but it will set you free! Adversity causes some people to break down and others to break records. Which choice will you make today?

Today, society promotes the view that everybody would be happy and completely fulfilled if only they “had it all”:  fame, fortune, beauty, material comforts, and a lavish, promiscuous lifestyle. If one does not have what is deemed “the perfect look”, “the perfect smile”, or “the perfect house”, they're seen as being too plain, ordinary, boring, and unworthy. This puts tremendous pressure on our youth. It makes them feel that if they don't measure up, then they're a failure. But the real failures are adults who foolishly embrace such unrealistic nonsense. The way we manipulate and exploit kids is shameful. It turns them into lovers of pleasure and rejectors of goodness. They deserve better.

Our schools have become killing fields. Walk into them and you'll find a war zone. School violence, once thought to be unthinkable, has become a common, everyday occurrence. Classroom and playground shootings, beatings, teacher assaults, graffitti, teacher burn-out, unsanitary and toxic health conditions, overcrowding, outdated textbooks and no accountability. Child advocate Paul Peterson has worked closely with at-risk youth. Says the former star of TV's The Donna Reed Show, “We've gone from problem youth to murderous youth.”

Positive Choices Tours

“Positive Choices” tours were created by Goshen as a way to connect with young people and make a direct in-person impact on them. We send out a team of celebrities and motivational speakers to address issues which affect our kids everyday. These shows prove that music, dance, and the spoken word can inform, entertain, and make a difference.

Some of our participants are ex-gang members and ex- child actors who have experienced their own heavy burdens. Because of what they' ve been through, they're able to instantly connect with audiences. Those in attendence know that these prevailing over-comers have “been there, done that.” They can see that these performers are not “victims” who gave into their circumstances. They're survivors possessed of inner strength, who have triumphed over insurmountable obstacles to become somebody. So, when they challenge kids by saying, “I overcame obatacles to become somebody, and so can you,” the message resonates.

“Positive Choices” is a welcome solution for kids. It takes them away from their daily bombardment of doom and gloom messages, bleak futures, and anxiety. It takes them away from their daily bombardment of doom and gloom messages, bleak futures, and anxiety. It fills them with much- needed hope and self-empowerment. They learn that positive action is better than negative reaction. By hearing first hand success stories, they begin to feel inspired and motivated to become someone better than who they currently are. They develop coping skills which help them to grow and reach a higher level they never thought possible.

Goshen seeks to bridge the various gaps:  race, color, religion - through “straight-up talk” that teaches and uplifts our youth.

Caring families and organizations must unite as one voice, and reach out to our most precious resource:  Our Children.

Stop judging the book by its cover! We must speak their language!

GO DEEPER THAN THE EYE CAN SEE!!!!!!
